How to Create a New Yahoo! Account

This article describes the steps for setting up a new Yahoo! login ID or Account.

Resolution

To start an entirely new Yahoo! Account, here's what you'll need to do:

1.    Sign out of Yahoo! Messenger by clicking the Messenger menu and selecting Sign Out. 

2.    After you're signed out of Yahoo! Messenger, you'll see the link Get a New Yahoo! ID, under your Yahoo! ID and Password fields.  Click the link, Get a New Yahoo! ID.

3.    You'll be taken to the Yahoo! Registration page, follow the prompts to create your new Yahoo! Account.

If you don't have Yahoo! Messenger running, get a new Yahoo! ID here.

1.    On the Yahoo! Sign in page, click the Sign Up link located at the bottom right of the page.

2.    You'll be taken to the Yahoo! Registration page, follow the prompts to create your new Yahoo! Account.

Please note: The information from your other Yahoo! Account will not transfer over to your new account. You'll need to recreate your Address Book contacts or Yahoo! Messenger Contacts in your new account.

Webcam Requirements for Yahoo! Messenger

Description

This article explains the webcam compatibility specifications for Yahoo! Messenger.

Resolution

Your webcam needs to support the following specifications to work with Yahoo! Messenger:

·         One of these image sizes:

·         Small image size: 160 x 120

·         Large image size: 320 x 240

·         RGB, I420, or IYUV formats. (Each is fine; we recommend RGB 24.)

·         Microsoft DirectX version 9.0

Note: To find out how to access your webcam image size information, go to How do I access my webcam/broadcast stats?

To determine what version of Direct X you have:

1.    Click the Start menu at the bottom left of your screen, then click Run.

2.    In the open box type:
dxdiag

3.    Click OK. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool window opens.

4.    Click the System tab.

5.    At the bottom of the System Information section, verify that your version of Direct X is 9.0, or newer.

6.    After you have verified your version of Direct X, you can exit the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window.

·         If your version of DirectX is 9.0 or newer:

·         Click Exit.

·         If your version of DirectX is older than 9.0 (any lower number):

·         Click Exit.

·         Download and install the latest version of DirectX from the Microsoft DirectX site.

Attention Logitech webcam users: Logitech webcam drivers may cause the following problems:

·         Windows freezes when accessing the webcam.

·         A black screen appears when using the webcam in Messenger.

·         A Webcam not found error message appears.

·         After 3 seconds, the sound drops out of calls made via Yahoo! Messenger.

You may benefit from upgrading your webcam software driver, please go to the Logitech download page for an update.

Your Message History in Yahoo! Messenger for Web

Yahoo! Messenger for the Web (beta) enables you to IM from any browser. It includes an exciting feature — Message History.

IM conversations with your friends can be saved in your Yahoo! account on Yahoo! servers. This means you can access and search your message history from any computer. Your IM friends and others you communicate with on Yahoo! Messenger can save conversations with you in their Yahoo! accounts, too.

Here's how to Enable Message History:

1.     Sign in to Yahoo! Messenger for the Web.    

2.     Click Message History in the top-right area of the page.   

3.      In the top-right of the message history window, click Options.    

4.     Check Enable Message History in the dialog.    

5.     Click Done.    

NOTE: Remember, whether or not you choose to enable this feature, your contacts may use Message History or some other archiving feature.

If you have an external webcam, you'll need to follow the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer of your webcam.

Once you locate the manufacturer's installation information, follow the instructions they provide in their documentation.

Additional notes:

·         Manufacturer software driver installation instructions can vary. We recommend that you refer to the documentation and installation CD that came with your webcam.

·         Most webcam manufacturers maintain the latest webcam software drivers on the download or support areas of their website. Just download it and save it to your computer.

·         Plug in your webcam USB cord only when prompted, this is usually done after rebooting your computer.
